Silver City's new Henry V. "La Burra" Morales Recreation Center held a ribbon cutting on July 17, 2025, while the New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Lt. Gov. Howie Morales, whose father the center is named after, were in town with the state cabinet members to meet with citizens to hear their questions and answer them. at a Cabinet in Your Community session, which was held later in the evening.

The Silver City Town Council held a regular meeting June 24, 2025. Attendance to the meeting included Mayor Ken Ladner, Mayor Pro Tem Guadalupe Cano, Nicholas Prince, Rudy Bencomo and Stan Snider (phone).
Ceremonies
The animal control officers and code enforcement officers wanted to recognize Police Chief Freddie Portillo. Corporal Manny Jaure presented the letter of appreciation and a metal sign they had made for him with his name and 131 SCPD. Officer Thomas Hernandez and Officer Vicki Toney had come to honor Portillo also. They had listed on the agenda that code enforcement and animal control would be doing a presentation but had wanted to surprise Portillo with the gift and recognition. Jaure read the letter they had written:

On June 25, 2025, the board of regents held a virtual special meeting at Western New Mexico University. The board consisted of Steven Neville, chair, Joseph "Dean" Reed, John Wertheim and WNMU student Keana Huerta.
The board approved the agenda.
Presidents report
Jack Crocker, acting president, had asked Michael Acosta, chief information officer, to give the board a brief update on the cyber issue and recent progress on restoration and recovery.

District Attorney Norman R. Wheeler announced that JAMES DELGADO was held without bond in a pre-trial detention hearing on July 15, 2025, by Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Tom Stewart.
JAMES DELGADO is facing charges of 2 Counts of Aggravated Assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon [3rd Degree], 1 count of Resisting, Evading, Obstructing an Officer [misdemeanor]. DELGADO will be held until the resolution of his case in the Grant County Detention Center.
