CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS TODAY AND SUNDAY FOR LOW HUMIDITY AND STRONG WINDS... .Very dry air remains in place, and breezy winds will continue this afternoon. Thus elevated to critical fire weather conditions are expected across much of south-central New Mexico and far west Texas today. Breezy winds and critically dry fuels will increase the risk for rapid fire spread. Another upper level storm system will approach the region on Sunday to give us another windy day with critical fire weather conditions.

Very dry air remains, and thus critical fire weather is expected across much of southwestern and south-central New Mexico plus far west Texas. Additionally, very dry and breezy conditions will develop again on Friday that will create critical fire weather for far west Texas and south-central New Mexico. The strongest winds will be west of the Rio Grande Valley. Breezy winds and critically dry fuels will increase the risk for rapid fire spread.

By Wednesday afternoon RH's will drop to around 10% for much of souther west New Mexico. Winds will also be gusty in the Gila Region and the New Mexico Bootheel on Wednesday afternoon, so we will see elevated to critical fire weather conditions for severed hours. We will see winds speeds of 20 to 30 mph which will drop off around sunset on Wednesday. Strong winds and critically dry fuels will increase the risk for rapid fire spread.

DEMING - The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) will be monitoring roadway conditions with law enforcement as high wind advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) on Apr. 22, 2022, briefing from NWS attached with Press Release.
