Lynette Holguin is Named 2023 Realtor of the Year

The Silver City Regional Association of Realtors has recognized Lynette Holguin as their 2023 Realtor of the Year.
This award is presented to a Realtor by their colleagues at the local level to recognize members that uphold and demonstrate the Realtor Code of Ethics, professionalism, and dedication to the real estate industry and community.
Lynette has served on the Association’s Board of Directors since 2020 and is the current President. She is a lifelong Grant County resident who works with her family at Home Town Real Estate. She has been a licensed broker since 2019, starting as an associate broker and earning her qualifying broker license last year.
“Realtors are the people’s connection to the community. The public looks to us for answers, for help, for comfort. Selling a home is saying goodbye to a chapter of their lives that has passed. Buying a home is saying hello to a future that has yet to come,” stated Holguin.
Megan Gorog Named to Fall 2023 Dean's Honors List at Cedarville University

CEDARVILLE, OHIO (01/22/2024)-- Megan Gorog of Silver City, was named to the Dean's Honor List at Cedarville University for Fall 2023. This recognition requires the student to obtain a 3.75 GPA or higher for the semester and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Eleven Counties Receive Risk Awareness Program (RAP) Award

SANTA FE, NM – New Mexico Counties recognized 11 counties with a 2023 Risk Awareness Program (RAP) Award during the NMC 2024 Legislative Conference on January 18, 2024. The RAP is a workplace risk control educational program that aims to reduce the frequency and severity of county claims through better risk awareness and safety practices. Twenty counties currently participate in the RAP.

Lois Duffy Painting Acquired By Southwest Regional Museum Of Art

Southwest Regional Museum of Art was recently gifted “Imagine, John Lennon” a painting by Lois Duffy completed early in the development of her unique 3-D Cube style. “Imagine, John Lennon” is the gift of Silver City resident, Robert Luria to SWRMA, and is now part of the Museum’s Permanent Collection. The Museum is grateful for Mr. Luria’s gift that contributes to the contemporary division of its Permanent Collection.
Lois Duffy settled in Silver City close to 20 years ago, having had a successful art career in Florida, Massachusetts, and along the Atlantic coast. Duffy was immediately appreciated here in New Mexico for her talent, wit, energy, and involvement in making Silver City an art destination. Her long list of exhibitions and recognition by jurors includes her work in the collections of the Ringling Museum of Art in Florida, the Berkshire Museum in Massachusetts, and the Capitol Art Collection in Santa Fe, NM.

Kylee Jones of Arenas Valley, NM, a freshman in Animal Science at West Texas A & M, made the fall President's List at the university for the fall semester by achieving a 4.0 grade point average for the semester.
Ketch Bays Named to South Plains College Fall 2023 President's List

LEVELLAND, TX -- Ketch Bays of Hurley was named to the South Plains College Fall 2023 President's List.
Bays was among more than 400 students named to the Fall 2023 President's List.
To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 4.0 and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours.
South Plains College is a comprehensive, two-year community college that serves the greater South Plains area of Texas with innovative educational programs that span the arts and sciences, technical education, continuing education and workforce development. Serving a 13-county area that comprises the southern portion of the Texas High Plains, the college's main campus is located in Levelland. SPC also offers educational programs at three locations in Lubbock - the SPC Lubbock Downtown Center, SPC Lubbock Career and Techical Center, and the SPC Reese Center - as well as an extension center in Plainview.

Every year McMillan and the Institute’s dedicated staff open their doors to the local students in the Dream Makers Health Careers Program and Teen Academy for Health Sciences, sponsored by the Frontier and Rural Workforce Development New Mexico Area Health Education Center (FNM AHEC). The high school and junior high students from various local schools get personalized tours of the facility.
“We want to open the students’ eyes that there are many options and opportunities for a career in health care.” said McMillian. “They can be the next generation of health care providers in our community.”
