Officer advised negative contact at Gough Park/will ATL/out at Pope and11th streets with male.

WNMU Offering Free Tax Preparation Assistance

SILVER CITY, NM — Western New Mexico University students are offering free tax preparation assistance to seniors and low-income families in the southwest corner of the state.
This is the 42nd year WNMU students have run the local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This free service is for people whose household income is $64,000 or less and for those who are 65 years or older. The volunteers — WNMU business and accounting students— are certified by the IRS and trained to help taxpayers identify tax credits.

The WNMU Francis McCray Gallery of Contemporary Art and the Expressive Arts Department will present the annual Juried Student Art Exhibit February 29 through March 31. The opening reception for the exhibit will begin at 6:00 PM on February 29, with awards announced at 6:30. More information can be found on the university’s website.

The Silver City Public Library invites you to join us Thursday, February 22nd for a free concert at the Silco Theater at 3:00pm with folk duo Hungrytown! Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson, through their years of worldwide touring and tireless devotion to many classic genres of music, have crafted Hungrytown into a true artistic hybrid, able to hold Celtic and Americana, ballads and psychedelia, sunshine and darkness, joy and despair–not only within the same album, but within the same song.

Gila National Forest offices closed in honor of Presidents Day

Monday is a fee-free day at Catwalk Recreation Area
All Gila National Forest offices will be closed on Monday, February 19 in commemoration of Presidents Day. Offices in Silver City, Mimbres, Glenwood, Truth or Consequences, Reserve, and Quemado will reopen with their normal business hours on Tuesday, February 20.
“On Presidents Day we honor those who have served as American Presidents,” said Forest Supervisor Camille Howes. “I hope you’ll enjoy some time outdoors on your public lands and take advantage of a fee-free Presidents Day at the Catwalk Recreation Area.”
