Public Meeting to Discuss Creating a ‘Senior Village’ in Silver City

Are you concerned about seniors being isolated and the shortage of services in Silver City to help people successfully age in place? A Senior Village could benefit our community and address these issues.

What is a Senior Village?

A Senior Village is a community based, non-profit, grassroots organization formed by a group of caring volunteers who want to help people to maintain independence and quality of life in their own homes.  A Village is not a place, but an organization that can link its members to many supportive community services.  The mission of a Village is to build a sense of community while offering resources and services, such as volunteer assistance with transportation, light home maintenance, and technology coaching.  There are already over 100 established Senior Villages in the U.S.  Read more about the National Village Model at:  https://www.vtvnetwork.org .

Wreaths To Be Retired

Volunteers are requested for help with wreath retirement at Ft Bayard National Cemetery this Saturday, January 20, at 8:30 am. This is a wonderful opportunity for younger hands to help out as well as adults. Participants are requested to park outside the cemetery gates to allow room for trucks and trailers on the narrow lanes inside the cemetery. Volunteers are asked to remove the wreaths from grave and cremains markers and to stack them by the side of the lanes as well as to load therm onto trucks and trailers. Some volunteers are also needed to help unload the trucks and trailers at the dumpster site just outside the gates. The wreath retirement proceeds regardless of the weather so please dress appropriately.
