SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is warning residents about a widespread scam targeting New Mexicans with fake toll road payment demands.
"These scammers create a false sense of urgency by threatening license suspension or legal action to panic people into making payments," said Sec. Ricky Serna, NMDOT. "Remember, since New Mexico has no toll roads, any message claiming you owe toll fees in our state is 100% fraudulent."
This alert comes after a surge in calls from concerned citizens who received fraudulent text messages. NMDOT officials emphasize that New Mexico does not operate any toll roads within state boundaries and will never request toll payments from residents or visitors.

Athena Wolf will explain how an awareness of the cycles of Nature helps us to intuitively understand the ebb and flow of the Universe and our own nature.
"We'll look at the air, water and blood tides of the moon; the 11-year cycles of the sun and how that affects us as well as the calendars of the ancient Vedas and the Maya," Wolf said.
"Observing the rhythm of the planets and stars can bring balance and harmony into our lives," she added.
Athena Wolf has been practicing Ayurveda for decades with a focus on treating chronic disease. She is currently writing an encyclopedic book on Ayurvedic treatments. She is the Maestra of the international school for healers known as La Escuela de Curanderismo and is the executive director of Quetzalcoatl Temple.
"This nonprofit entity gifts our neighbors in Grant County with medicinal plants and heirloom vegetables. It also maintains a botanical garden in Arenas Valley and does scientific research to benefit New Mexico farmers," Wolf said.
