On June 25, 2025, the board of regents held a virtual special meeting at Western New Mexico University. The board consisted of Steven Neville, chair, Joseph "Dean" Reed, John Wertheim and WNMU student Keana Huerta.
The board approved the agenda.

Jack Crocker, acting president, had asked Michael Acosta, chief information officer, to give the board a brief update on the cyber issue and recent progress on restoration and recovery.

District Attorney Norman R. Wheeler announced that JAMES DELGADO was held without bond in a pre-trial detention hearing on July 15, 2025, by Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Tom Stewart.
JAMES DELGADO is facing charges of 2 Counts of Aggravated Assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon [3rd Degree], 1 count of Resisting, Evading, Obstructing an Officer [misdemeanor]. DELGADO will be held until the resolution of his case in the Grant County Detention Center.
Goose Fire Update Monday July 21, 2025
Reported date: July 9, 2025 Containment: 0% Cause: Lightning/Natural

Strategy: Full Suppression Fire behavior: Backing, Flanking, Creeping
Operations: Yesterday, firefighters successfully conducted strategic firing operations along Goose Lake Trail (#238) connecting to Forest Rd 282, helping to secure the southeastern corner of the fire. Two Type 1 helicopters supported suppression efforts with water drops along active fire areas as crews worked to strengthen and secure lines. All line preparation on Forest Rd 282 has been completed, and masticators arrived to assist crews along Forest Rd 4083V.

The next speaker at the July 9, 2025 community discussion on HMS issues did not identify herself, but said she has lived in the community for four years. "And I've had concerns about HMS for four years., trying to find a primary care provider and having that person stick around. I didn't start looking because, luckily, I'm in relatively good health, until last year, when I started looking. I lost two health care primary providers through HMS, and this year I do go to Dr Jones, but he's not a primary care physician."
FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 845 PM MDT THIS EVENING...* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...A portion of southwest New Mexico, including the following county, Grant.
* WHEN...Until 845 PM MDT.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. River or stream flows are elevated.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 650 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen.
