Federal Jury Convicts Santa Clara Man on Child Pornography Charges

ALBUQUERQUE – Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Francisco B. Burrola, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) El Paso, announced today that a federal jury returned a guilty verdict against Michael Rivera after less than 2 hours of deliberation. The jury convicted Rivera, 31, of Santa Clara, New Mexico, on one count of coercion and enticement of a minor and two counts of production of a visual depiction of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct. United States District Judge Margaret I. Strickland presided.

REVISED: Bridge Damage 1-10 eastbound to I-25 northbound closed

RAMP CONSTRUCTION CLOSURE:

Bridge Damage – Las Cruces Area

I-10 eastbound to I-25 northbound crossover is closed, traffic can detour at exit 141 (University Ave/NM101) or at exit 151 (Mesquite) for I-25 northbound travel until further notice. I-10 westbound and eastbound lanes and I-10 westbound to I-25 northbound lanes are open.  Motorists are asked to reduce speed, obey posted signs, and watch for emergency personnel, and equipment. Please expect delays. No anticipated reopening at this time.

New Mexico State Police Make Arrest in the Homicide of Stephen Timmons

Silver City, NM – On June 26, at around 10 p.m., State Police officers were dispatched to Dragon Fly Trailhead near Arenas Valley in Grant County. Stephen Timmons was on a bike ride on the trail and had not returned home. His vehicle was located in the parking lot at the trailhead.

Search and Rescue teams located Mr. Timmons deceased on Tuesday, June 27, at around 3:30 a.m. During the examination of Mr. Timmons, The Office of the Medical Investigator located several gunshot wounds.

The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was contacted to take over the investigation. State Police agents began looking for a possible suspect in the murder.

Fourth of July 2023 Silver City Museum Ice Cream Social

The Silver City Museum Ice Cream Social opened after the end of the parade, and the courtyard's shade drew in parade-goers. Music filled the air, and ice cream filled the stomachs. The museum parking lot had a number of vendors, who had chosen this venue rather than Gough Park to sell their wares and hand out information.

Gough Park in Silver City filled with parade goers after the end of the parade to visit the various food, clothing, jewelry vendors, information booths and any friends they happened to encounter. Some had already parked their chairs in the shady spots, and shade was a valuable commodity on the warm summer day.

Fire activity on Pass Fire is winding down, with few isolated pockets of heat remaining along the south end of the fire. It has not increased in size over the past several days and is 55% contained. This is the last fire update for Pass Fire unless conditions significantly change. Pass Fire will continue to be monitored to ensure it stays confined to the planned boundaries.
